India has said it does not endorse remarks made by former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina during a virtual news conference in New Delhi about Bangladesh`s duly constituted government.
Responding on Thursday to Bangladesh`s strong reaction to Hasina`s news conference, organised by the Foreign Correspondents of South Asia on 5 August, Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal reiterated that the Indian government had no role in organising the event.
"I have already stated the government`s position on the issue before the press conference happened. I am reiterating it here, the government had no role to play in what was an event by a private media entity," Jaiswal told the media.
"And the government does not endorse anything said at the forum, especially with regard to the duly constituted government of Bangladesh," he said.
When asked whether India shared concerns raised by Hasina`s son, Sajeeb Wajed Joy, about Bangladesh, Jaiswal said New Delhi was closely monitoring developments in its neighbourhood.
"we examine everything from the perspective of our national security, and we take whatever appropriate steps are needed for us," he added.
